Marko Hiipakka, D.Sc.

Founder & CEO


 

Marko Hiipakka has formerly held postdoctoral research positions in spatial sound and hearing technology at Aalto University in Finland and at Oldenburg University in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing. His dissertation “Estimating pressure at the eardrum for binaural reproduction” forms the core of Hefio’s technology. Since 2012, he has developed new methods for calibrating circumaural and insert headphones for spatial sound reproduction. Mr. Hiipakka is an expert in audio signal processing, acoustic modeling, hearing aid technology, industrial 3-D design, electronics manufacturing and assembly, industrial economics and IPR-law.

Javier Gómez Bolaños, D.Sc.

CTO


 

Javier Gómez Bolaños has formerly served as researcher and lecturer in headphone acoustics at Aalto University. He holds a Ph.D. in Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing. He has worked in various research projects related to 3D audio reproduction on headphones, publishing several scientific articles on headphone equalization for binaural reproduction. Mr. Gómez Bolaños is an expert on headphone acoustics, audio signal processing, acoustic modeling, spatial sound reproduction, and sound quality assessment.

Catarina Mendonça, Ph.D.

Co-founder & Psychoacoustics Advisor


 

Catarina Mendonça is a Marie Curie Fellow at the Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics in Aalto University. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychoacoustics, specializing in hearing, multisensory perception, and auditory adaptation processes. In recent years, she has worked in various research projects including topics such as the adaptation of headphone-delivered sounds, perception of sound discomfort, sound detection and recently on sound perception by hearing-impaired populations.

Jari Kleimola, D.Sc.

Head of Software Development


 

Jari Kleimola has extensive experience in the software industry specializing in user interaction and real-time audio. After 20+ years of professional experience, he returned to academia and earned a Ph.D. from Aalto University’s Dept. of Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing on non-linear abstract sound synthesis algorithms. As a postdoctoral researcher, he has focused on latest web technologies and recent innovations in mobile streaming applications and personalization support for binaural headphone reproduction in web browsers. Mr. Kleimola is an expert in real-time sound synthesis and processing algorithms, audio signal processing, 3D audio, software development, web technologies, distributed software architectures, home multimedia, and human-computer interaction.

Antti Huovilainen is an expert in digital signal processing and analog modeling with 15+ years of professional experience and several scientific publications. Mr Huovilainen holds a M.Sc. degree in Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing from Aalto University.
